Why Grain-Free Cat Food? Finding the Healthiest Cat Food Options

September 3, 2013 by L. E. Mastilock

Why Grain-Free Cat Food? 10lbs Free Cat Food Giveaway!

We all want the best for our felines, even if they do issue an occasional death threat. It’s our job, as their human slaves, to provide them with healthy cat food, after all, we’ll be the ones paying the vet fees, and they know when we’re skimping on cheap food.

Trust me, they know.

Why Grain-Free Cat Food? 10lbs Free Cat Food Giveaway!

Even if your cats don’t hide on top of the kitchen cabinets and spy on you, they know. I don’t how they know, but they do!

Maybe they use their Jedi mind powers or perhaps they can just feel it in their oh so sensitive bodies. They know the difference between food stuffed with fillers and the best, healthiest cat food there is! And they’re not shy about showing you their displeasure if you choose poorly!

The more I learn about my cats’ nutrition needs, I have begun to seek out grain-free cat food brands with natural ingredients. Now I know natural ingredients do not guarantee optimum nutrition; balanced nutrients does.

Why grain-free? This seems to be all the rage now, so what’s all the hype?

Pets can have allergies or sensitivity to grains that can result in itchy, dry skin and upset tummies. Grain-free foods help cats avoid these allergens.

Grain-free does not mean carb-free or that the food is high in protein. Grains are often replaced with ingredients such as sweet potatoes which provide similar or even higher carbohydrate levels, allowing for grain-free foods to still provide complete nutrition for your cat.

Why Grain-Free Cat Food? 10lbs Free Cat Food Giveaway!

Whether or not you feed your pets grain-free, balanced nutrition is the key to good health for your pet.

Luckily, it’s not hard to find grain-free or natural ingredients in pet food anymore!

This post is sponsored by Hill’s. I am being compensated for helping
spread the word about Hill’s Science Diet for Cats, but I, on Rascal and Rocco,
only share information I feel is relevant to my readers. Hill’s Pet

In fact one of the most popular cat food brands, Hill’s® Science Diet®, is now making it! Woohoo! They even offer grain-free canned cat food, which I’m super stoked about!

Why Grain-Free Cat Food? 10lbs Free Cat Food Giveaway!Hill’s® Science Diet® Grain-Free cat food offers the precise balance of nutrients your cat needs for optimal health without any grains! The first ingredient is meat (which is one of the first things I always look for in cat food). Yep, it’s made with REAL CHICKEN as the FIRST ingredient and no artificial colors, flavors or preservatives.

The grain-free natural ingredients in Science Diet support healthy kidneys, immune system and good vision as well as nourishment for a beautiful silky skin and coat-the most important part according to Rascal and Rocco.

  28. Cathy Keisha says

Grain free is better unless the grains are replaced with vegetables that offer no nutrition for a cat. Also dry food has been linked to feline diabetes and other illnesses. TW cut way down on my dry food after reading this article. http://www.catinfo.org/. Love the pic of the cat on the cabinet! I'm glad Hills also offers wet food.

    • L. E. Mastilock says

      September 4, 2013 at 4:30 am

We make sure to give wet food daily as well. It's very important for hydration, but I didn't know about the diabetes or illnesses. Good to know! Thank you for sharing the article! Want the best for these boys!

It used to be SO difficult to find grain-free cat food and especially grain-free food that wasn't 100% protien. It is nice that there are now plenty of healthy, balanced options available!
