The STAR Project
STAR stands for Saving Those At Risk.
This volunteer and donation based program offers rescue, shelter, and education to end animal abuse and neglect, homelessness and the euthanization of healthy animals.
Based in Nebraska, this organization was founded on behalf of Star, a mixed-breed female pit bull, who was shot by a NYPD Officer, while protecting her homeless owner while he was suffering a seizure. She was reported dead, but miraculously survived the shot to the head and spent months in recovery. Star’s struggle garnered national media attention and caught the eye of Charlie Cifarelli, who followed Star’s story and ended up adopting her. In August 2015 the STAR Project was formed to help suffering animals and educate a no-kill philosophy to the public and pet parents.
The STAR project is a non-profit, fully run by volunteers and donations.
