Only Elephants Should Wear Ivory- Petition to Stop the Killing #MondayMatters

January 16, 2017 by L. E. Mastilock

Welcome to Monday Matters– Spread awareness to help important causes and start your week off right by making a difference each Monday, even
if that is just to pin, tweet, or share to pass this information on.

Only #Elephants Should Wear Ivory. Pettition to Stop the Killing #causes #change #marchforelephants #savetheelephants #animals

One elephant is killed every 15 minutes

35,000 elephants were killed in 2012 alone.

At this rate of poaching, elephants will be extinct in less than 5 years.

Illegal ivory trade is fueled by demand. Ivory carving factories in China process more than 220 tons of elephant tusks every year.

In 2008 stockpiles of ivory were approved in a “one-off” sale to China, which created a surge in demand
for the coveted “white gold”.

Soaring prices encourage more
poaching and attract the attention of armed rebel groups, corrupt
government officials, and international criminal organizations. The
profits, in turn, fund other illegal activities elsewhere in the world.

2011 and 2012 were especially lethal years for elephants, smashing
previous records for illegal ivory seizures, typically captured en route
to China. The trend shows no sign of slowing.

We can do something to stop the killing  before it’s too late!

-Take Action Now-

Sign this Petition to urgently request the Member Parties of the
United Nations Convention on International Trade of Endangered Species
(CITES) and the Ministers of Environment of the African Range States to
take strong, affirmative and sustained action to help save the elephant
from the very real threat of extinction.

Sign this Petition to call on Chinese Ambassador to help end the demand in China for this deadly trade.

Sign this Petition to tell Google to stop trafficking in ivory immedietly! Google offers thousands of ivory items on its shopping sites around the
world, providing easy markets for illegal ivory.

I was unable to access the Google petition. The other 2 were accessible, but the Google petition doesn't display the page. Not sure if it's just me? Thanks!

These are such disturbing facts!! I can't believe anyone still buys anything with Ivory in it. It's simple supply & demand. STOP buying the stuff and they'll stop making it! Thanks for this post.
