As a dog owner there is a common issue we all dread and we all have to deal with – Fleas.
Finding a flea or two on your dog means it’s not a major problem, right?
Think again. There is already an infestation where you can’t see; in the carpet, in the upholstery, hiding down in the fur where you can’t see them, they’re there! Oh, believe me, they’re there. Having a big ‘ol party and laughing up at you.
The number of fleas on your dog and the number hiding under all the fur can be a huge difference!
For example, let’s say you see 10 fleas on your dog, there could be 40 or more hiding. With 40 fleas you can expect approximately 80 pupae (cocoons), 280 larvae, and 400 flea eggs hiding in your carpet, bedding, couch and even in between your floor boards. Yikes! Hope you don’t mind bugs, especially blood sucking ones that breed like crazy!
With my dog, who is a Basenji-Rat Terrier mix, we tried all kinds of dog flea remedies, but couldn’t find anything that really worked for him. Poor Max, he’s allergic to fleas and one bite gives him a terribly itchy rash all over. He would chew and scratch till he’d bleed. Seeing fleas on your itchy miserable dog is frustrating enough, but what you can’t see is the toughest part of the problem.
The best way to prevent a flea infestation on your dog is to use flea control regularly, on time, and never miss.

Max is so happy to be flea free!
He’s like a different dog! He used to find every opportunity to get under furniture or anything he could rub his back against. He would rock my kids’ bunk bed as he scratched his back under it at night. And we’d hear the “thump, thump, thump” of his hind leg going throughout the night when we were trying to sleep. Now he can sleep sound and so can we.
Is it really so easy?
I did say it comes as a “tasty chew”, that means it’s a chewable tablet that you can give your pup like a treat. “Tasty”? Well, that’s up to each dog, but most seem to like it. Mine did for a good long while, however this month he decided he wasn’t going to eat it. Maybe the cats had told him it what it really was and he knew he was being duped? Who knows, but suddenly he did not wish to partake of his treat.
So, I crushed it up, the chew is soft and crumbled easily, and mixed it in with a spoonful of peanut butter. I stuck this to the roof of Max’s mouth and enjoyed watching him lick, and lick, and lick, till it was all gone. He swallowed it all, was happy with the peanut butter snack, and I was happy knowing he would be flea free for another 12 weeks. Per the vet, this was a safe way to administer BRAVECTO so long as he ate every last bit, which he did. I was sure to watch him until he was completely finished.

Our indoor cat once had a terrible flea infestation. It was just dreadful for him and it was pretty bad for the rest of us too. I try to keep all of my pets protected now.
Great post! We had a flea conundrum last year and the one visible flea was a sign of TONS that we didn’t see on the dogs. Protection is incredibly important.
You are so right, seeing just a fleas means there are dozens more hiding in your home or in the dog’s fur. Great review on this!
Love & biscuits,
Dogs Luv Us and We Luv Them
Clever. Why do I get the feeling the cats enjoy telling Max he’s being duped?
I’m glad to learn of this product. We have been pretty lucky with fleas. Only had them in our house with our previous dog. Once was enough and I am SO CAREFUL now.
Glad that you’ve found something that works for Max! We also use Bravecto with our dog.
