I’ve been wanting to switch Max’s pet food to see if it would make a difference in his dry itchy dog skin.
And, since the cats have been thoroughly enjoying their healthy pet food, we thought it only right to get Max some healthy natural dog food as well. We’ve been searching for the best dog food and hoping it would help his itchy skin.
The dog won’t stop scratching!
His skin is very dry, he gets hot spots, and this dog chews himself up! He has no fleas, we make sure of that, so I was wondering if it was something in his food irritating his skin or giving him a skin condition. Perhaps the grains or the not enough or the right types of nutrients?
When I was offered to do a dog food review for By Nature Pet Foods I was thrilled! Could this be the magic formula to stop the itching? Stop the dog from scratching and biting and chewing his paws and back? It’s driving me crazy and I can only imagine how he feels!
Will this be the miracle cure? I can hope and dream, right?!
The poor guy, my Max. He jumps off the bed at night, knowing he’ll get in trouble if he scratches while up there, shaking the whole bed. He’s chewed away all the hair above his little stumpy tail, and his skin is so dry and red. I’ve come close to putting a cone on his head.
I’ve tried sprays (some help temporarily), lotions, oatmeal baths (relief for a day!) and a few different types of food. But I have to give each time to see if they make any difference. Well, it’s worth a shot and I love that this dog food is all natural!
Just because Rascal and Rocco are such demanding cats and I have no choice but to shower them with attention, doesn’t mean we don’t dote on our perfect family dog.
Max was extremely excited to get his own bag of By Nature® Pet Foods Adult Dog Formula to try. He gave it a good sniffing all over. His tail was wagging in anticipation and I couldn’t possibly have opened it fast enough!
It’s not that he didn’t already have healthy dog food, but again, I love that By
Nature® Pet Foods is all natural. The adult dry dog food formula’s first
ingredient is meat. It comes with no corn, wheat, or soy and has
vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants for a healthy immune system and
the overall health of your dog.
Once it was in his bowl, he sniffed and walked away. What?! I thought you couldn’t wait to try this great natural dry dog food?! Don’t you know this will cure all your itchiness? I had high hopes.
As soon as he no longer had an audience, he went back and scarfed down the whole bowl! I guess he likes to eat in privacy. I did sneak a pic as he was working to get that last little bit out of the side of the bowl. I suppose in his dog food ratings, this means it was a 10, at least in taste factor. That’s important! Even if the healthiest food ever, it’s no good if it tastes nasty and you won’t eat it.
So, did it work? Is it the cure all for obsessively itchy dogs?
He’s been enjoying it for almost a month now and, YES, his coat seems thicker and skin a bit healthier. He is much less itchy than he was! Oh rapture!!
It not the complete cure, but I am so happy he is healthier and not as itchy. It pains me to see him is such discomfort, and my own eye is twitching less from all the scratch, scratch, chew, chew, chewing I had to listen to all day.
I’ve looked up some natural remedies for itchy dog skin and now I add a tablespoon of olive oil to his food and rub him down with Calendula lotion when he seems really dry or does get a hot spot. An only use gentle, sensitive skin dog shampoo with oatmeal when he needs a bath. Oh he is so much better than he was! He chews and scratches much less!
one of my friends would feed her dog a scrabbled egg and he had a beautiful glossy coat don't know why maybe give it a try thanks for hosting another hop frankie's mom lorraine
Yes, eggs are good for that! I do give him some when we have left overs, but with my kids, that's not often. I should try to give him eggs more often. Thanks for your advice!
If he still hasn't quit scratching, but seems somewhat better, try a completely grain-free food. Dannyboy was allergic to all grains. Giving him barley, oats, and rice would have had him clawing his skin off again.
The last food we tried was grain free, but didn't seem to help. I had another dog allergic to Lamb. Not sure what it is yet, but trying to narrow it down little by little. Thanks!
