Rascal and Rocco were saved from the brink of starvation just in the nick of time, as I told you recently when I shared that Natural Balance Pet food is now available at PetSmart. However, did you know that Max, the dog, also benefited from Natural Balance premium pet food being so readily available?
It used to be a production to find food for him that wouldn’t bother this dog with sensitive skin because of his dog allergies, but Natural Balance has grain free dog food and limited ingredient pet food options, both of which he seems to do better with. I have had dogs with sensitive stomachs and dogs with sensitive skin.
8 Things that I have found help with dog allergies:
- grain free food
- limited ingredient food
- dog food with fish as a main ingredient
- fish oil supplements
- olive oil applied topically
- calendula lotion, applied topically
- sprays and lotions designed to stop itching and soothe hot spots
- warm baths with oatmeal shampoo or real ground oatmeal
Dog with sensitivities or allergies often have:
- itchy skin
- hot spots
- lick incessantly
- develop sores from their constant itching, scratching and chewing
- and a number of other symptoms
Natural Balance is an all natural pet food, which to me means it’s made with only goodness.
Now that it’s conveniently available at PetSmart, where I buy everyone else’s food, it’s so easy to pick up a bag of dog food for Max as well.
He was thrilled that this last visit, when I came home with Natural Balance cat food, kitty treats, and way too many cans of wet food (how does that always happen?), he was not left out.
Watch his reaction when I showed him the bag of food I bought for him:
I got him a bag of Natural Balance Limited Ingredient Sweet Potato and Fish Formula dry dog food. I always try to get fish as the main protein, if I can, so the extra fish oil helps keep his skin and coat hydrated and healthy.

In fact both cats and the dog are currently eating Natural Balance limited ingredient food with fish as the main protein, so I have to look carefully before I feed either of them, to make sure I don’t get them mixed up! Good thing they have a little image of a cat or dog above the words so I can easily see which is which without having to try and read the bag before I’ve had my coffee each morning.
I just learned about Natural Balance Wild Pursuit dog food which is high in protein and I love that it is also all natural pet food and is grain-free. Natural balance has many option to meet pets needs and this one sounds like a great option for Max. I think I will get a bag next time I’m at the PetSmart for him to try.

I wish there was a PetSmart closer to me. I’d love to try this food with my Pug. He has allergies and we use an oatmeal bath to soothe his skin. This food would be an added bonus to help control allergies.
We have a miniature schnauzer who is so sensitive! We have to be so careful with what we feed her, but I will try this, as it may help her. Thanks for the suggestion!
We fostered an Italian Greyhound for a few months and he had a wheat allergy. Grain free all we fed him. It’s great to see brands like this that offer grain free foods for animals.
Our poor boy Tukker has terrible allergies and we have to be so careful with his food and treats. I love that these products are grain free; he does not do well with grains. We have got to try out these treats for him; he’ll be so happy.
This also applies to kitties with allergies, too. NB has some limited ingredient foods that are tasty and good for us kitties with allergies. ~Ernie

I love the Wild Pursuit! It doesn’t give me itchies.
I love the many varieties that Natural Balance makes for dogs and cats. We shop at PetSmart for Natural Balance treats and my friend now is able to buy her dog’s canned food and kibble there, too.
Our dog has terrible allergies and skin problems. He is on medication for them, but this food sounds like it might really help. I’m heading to PetsMart this week to check it out.
Bentley has allergies so we also use the L.I.T. food and treats in our rotational diet.
Great info!

Thank you for the tips on allergies! My chihuahua is having that issue right now. We tried a new food but there’s been no change. I’m going to give this one a try, as well as the lotions you mentioned.
Hope you find what helps. We also have to make sure Max has no fleas. He’s allergic. And it can take a while for a change in food to make a noticeable difference. That can be frustrating, but I’d give it a month, then try something else for a month if no change.
