Whenever I’m thinking of bringing a new pet home, I check out my local animal shelters. I like to adopt if possible. A few years ago, I wandered in to look at the dogs, just in case, knowing there was no chance they would have the dog for me. But, we all know how that story ended. Max was there waiting for me, looking at me with those big, brown, irresistible eyes.
It’s a good thing it was his eyes and not his teeth that took my fancy.
His teeth were in pretty dismal shape already. I didn’t know it until he was already part of the family and I had taken him in for a check up. I wouldn’t change a thing, but even with care, some of his teeth are still pretty bad and this dog has some bad breathe!

We are working on a plan with the vet, but for now, his teeth don’t seem to bother him at all.
Whom they do bother, are his people!
Max likes to jump up and breathe right in my face when I’m sitting or sometimes when I have just woken up. His foul breath is enough to wake the dead! Oh, it stinks! He often cuddles up with his favorite girl and breathes right in her face, too, making her squeal and move away from him. Of course, then he thinks she’s playing and licks her face! Yuck!
When I learned Nutri-Vet® had a dog supplement in the form of a natural dog biscuit that freshens bad breathe I was all over that! Anything to freshen up that mouth! (Don’t miss your chance for a free bag at the bottom of this post!)
He’s been eating them for a month and look at those pearly whites! I have noticed his breath is much more pleasant. Actually, I haven’t noticed his breath at all, which is a great thing! I’d rather not smell dog breath no matter how sweet it is.
Nutri-Vet Breath & Tartar Biscuits for dogs are baked hard and crunchy to help promote strong teeth and healthy gums and makes your dog much more pleasant to be face to face with. With spearmint and parsley, these natural dog treats are doing a great job! Max cuddles up with me every night lately since it’s been so cold where we live and I have definitely noticed it’s easier to breathe around this pup. Fresh dog breath is taken for granted until you’re trying to sleep with bad dog breath in your face!
Unfortunately, we won’t be able to continue with these wonderful biscuits as they are not grain free (woops, my bad! I forgot to check) and with Max’s grain allergies, he’s a bit itchy all of a sudden. I hope they come out with a grain free option soon!

My georges breath stank but these will help, thanks for the chance to win.
I’ve been with my sister’s dog and his breath was terrible.
We like to go to our friends house where they have 2 dogs.. OMG their breath can knock me over.. Its so so bad, but they love to give us kisses.. The dogs, not our friends..
My rescue dog sometimes has some pretty bad breathe, I tell him when its bad haha
Yes! I brush my dogs teeth had them cleaned by the vet but his breath is still bad!
My dogs breath just got worse this week when we changed her diet
Yes, My dog’s breath does get stinky sometimes.
My dog’s breathe always makes me gag. This would be so perfect to have for them.
We know all about that breath that can wake the dead! The fur-family seems to know when they have bad breath because that’s always when they sit and breathe in our faces! BOL!
Mr. N is picky about treats so we brush his teeth every day. Bad breath is no fun.
We have some stinky dog breath over here right now, so we’ll have to check these out! Love that picture of Max looking up at the camera. Too cute!
Hopefully, you can find a treat as effective for breath and that is grain free. Maybe this company will develop a grain free option.
Max is so cute but nothing worse than stinky breath (well any stink really), especially if they are snugglers. I’ll keep my eye out for these for Kilo the Pug. He loves treats and I prefer ones that are healthy.
We might try these…. Miss Mishu does not have the best smelling breath!
Some people think that it is normal for dogs to have bad breath, but it’s not. Bad breath is the result of bacteria in their mouths. I am a veterinarian, and I just spent a lot of time creating a Guide To Dog Dental Products which I know you would find useful. There are 20 different products discussed including dental chews, water additives, diets, and more. The products are all clinically proven to work and have received the Veterinary Oral Health Council Seal of Acceptance. You can get my Guide for free when you sign up for my Pet Lovers Newsletter. Which, as it happens, is the subject of my Wordless Wednesday blog post. Check out my post to get a copy of my Guide: http://rachelebaker.com/subscribe-to-my-pet-lovers-newsletter-and-receive-a-free-copy-of-my-guide-to-dog-dental-products/
I know much more than treats is necessary for good dental care and not all dental treats are good for your pet. I will have to check out your guide.
I can how Max would wriggle his way into your life! It looks like he has a wonderful bond with his girl as well. I hope they come out with a grain free version of the treats for Max.
This guys is a charmer I am sure! I think dog smell can be overwhelming both as wet coat smell and breath, so these are good treats to see. We never take as much care of ur teeth as we should!
I would not want to mask bad breath – healthy mouth and a healthy dog don’t stink. (Unless they just ate something naughty, of course). I believe in finding out and addressing the cause of bad breath. Cookie’s breath smells great, I had people ask what I use. Nothing – health.
I don’t think the fluffies’ breath stinks, but my husband disagrees 😉 I”ll be looking into these!
This is a catchy post! We had a bad dental experience a few years back too when we adopted a shelter cat. Unfortunately, her issues weren’t as simple as buying dental treats. She had stomatitis, a disease where even the least bit of tartar will ravage the gums. Not only did she need almost all her teeth removed, but I now need to brush her remaining teeth daily with pet toothpaste. Treats alone won’t suffice! Thankfully, she made a quick recovery after surgery, and she lets me clean her teeth.
Oh, poor kitty. And kitty mama! I hope she didn’t give you too much trouble with the brushing. Max needs more than treats as well, but at least they help! Someone needs to invent a good dental treat for cats!
Mine definitely have some stinky breath! Thanks for the giveaway!
He is adorable. Luckily daily brushing should be able to help those choppers get back to pearly white since the biscuits are a no-go for him.
Yes, and at least he really doesn’t mind the brushing too much
Aww, Max is such a cutie! I love the pics of him with your daughter. I may have to look into these. I hate treats like Greenies that have so much artificial crap in them. My dogs are on a partially raw diet, so that helps their teeth a LOT. Our senior boy Helo’s teeth were a mess when we got him too. Thanks for the tip!
I’ve heard raw is good for the teeth. I haven’t been brave enough to try it. We try to stick with all natural foods & treats, so I really liked these
Kilo has some stinky breath too. We need these!
Max is such a sweetie!
So important to keep check of our pets teeth and mouth health! My cat just had a cleaning with her vet and now her breath is fresh and her teeth clean.
We had not heard of these so will check out! We try to provide good dental care and we feed raw – this makes a big difference as well. Thanks for sharing!
I might have to try out the raw diet. I keeping hearing good things.
Ruby has some breath issues as well. She also came to us with lots of dental issues, but even after her dental, her breath is still a bit stinky! We would love to give these a try
Max is adorable! He *does* have those eyes! #practicalmondays
My dog’s breath is occasionally pretty powerful when I don’t keep up her toothbrushing so we’re keen to find products which help.
P.S. (I think there’s the Nutrivet Twitter entry link is broken).
Uh oh! Thanks for letting me know. All fixed now.
Doh, I have just realised this is US only. I’m following on Twitter so I must have automatically assumed you were UK too. My mistake, I have deleted any entries I am able to.
Oh, so sorry. Wish I could make them ship to you!
Good dental care is important! Sounds like your pup is part of good family
