It’s the 35th Anniversary of Delta Rescue, the largest no-kill, care-for-life animal sanctuary for rescued animals in the world.
This
unique sanctuary spans over 115 acres and houses over
1500 dogs and cats, plus a few dozen horses, pigs and goats.

Founder and chief rescuer Leo Grillo is hailed as one of the pioneers of the no-kill movement.
Each and every animal was rescued by Leo after having been abandoned in the wilderness.
I highly recommend watching the inspiring and moving documentary of his work: The Rescuer
How is this sanctuary different from other animal rescues?
The sanctuary houses a state of the art pet hospital, so every animal gets the greatest possible care without regard to cost. And, more remarkably, this is a “care for life” animal
sanctuary -the biggest in the world. That means none are adopted out-
they are all there for the rest of their lives.
sanctuary -the biggest in the world. That means none are adopted out-
they are all there for the rest of their lives.
Why?
Statistically, dog and cat owners only keep adopted
animals for 2.5 years on average (so sad!) If not abandoned somewhere, these pets are then
sent back to shelters and euthanasia is often their fate.
At Delta, they have a safe, secure and loving home for their whole
lives.

To
commemorate this anniversary, Grillo is compiling a book entitled
“Rainbow Bridge is Real!,”
The book will offer stories of how animals and their
human friends bond together forever. He is currently soliciting stories
from people throughout the country.

“If we can share our stories of the animals who are waiting for us in
the afterlife, and how they are with us every moment in this life,
loving us, we will live with the joy of meeting new animal souls instead
of the worry of our own survival. We all survive, we are eternal
beings.” Leo Grillo.

Now through May 1, 2015, animal lovers are encouraged to send their stories for possible inclusion in this inspiring collection. Send your submissions to donate@deltarescue.org or write to DR, PO Box 9, Glendale, CA 91209. More details here.
What a great animal sanctuary. Happy Anniversary!
Thank you so much! If only I had it together enough to post a celebration!
This sounds great. I am glad that each pet is taken care of as it should be
This sounds amazing! I had no idea the statistics were so bad for adopted animals. One of our kitties was returned to the shelter two times before finding us! We love him so much and still can't understand why. Thank you for raising awareness for this amazing organization!
This is incredible! I'd never heard of this place before thanks for posting about it!
Wow! Love D.E.L.T.A's dedications to the animals!
Paws up for that rescue and its wonderful job ! Purrs
This sounds like a really wonderful place. I'm glad that they are able to help so many animals to have a place to call home for the remainder of their lives. Those statistics are really sad.
It's so cool that they can give them a home forever there
My human has heard of Delta – it's not too far from our home. But she actually doesn't know all that much about it – you'd think she would!
Glad I could remind you it's there and hopefully you learned something you didn't know.
