Itching. Scratching. Biting. Itching again.
I took his collar off because it was jingling all night and keeping everyone awake. My poor dog was biting up his skin and fur and I finally had to put a cone on him while I tried to solve this issue.
- Problem 1: Itchy dog with fleas
- Problem 2: Flea collars, topical flea medicine, natural flea sprays, and flea washes DO NOT WORK on my dog.
- Problem 3: Max is allergic to fleas. One bite and he gets a raised red rash all over his belly and under his legs with uncontrollable itching and biting.
So, what is a dog mom to do when she feels she’s tried everything? My poor dog was suffering no matter how I tried to keep fleas at bay and I was so sick of his constant biting and scratching.
Have you heard of the flea “pill”?
My veterinarian told me about a fast acting chewable flea prevention that gets rid of fleas and ticks on dogs and works for many dogs when topical flea medications do not.

She told me to give BRAVECTO® (Fluralaner) a try.
What is BRAVECTO?
BRAVECTO is a tasty chew for dogs 6 months or older that protects from fleas and ticks for up to 12 weeks*. It starts working in 2 hours and kills 100% of fleas within 12 hours! It’s FDA approved and only available through your veterinary clinic.
I’m thrilled that it kills ticks as well as fleas. I hate ticks! They give me the willies and my late dog died from kidney failure after a tick bite. I never want that fate for any dog again.
BRAVECTO kills:
- black-legged tick
- American dog tick
- brown tick
- and lone star ticks (8 weeks).

Fleas are the most common parasite on dogs and cats and can carry serious diseases.
The flea life cycle is long and remembering a monthly dose can leave gaps where fleas can quickly re-infest. I love that BRAVECTO lasts longer so I really only have to remember it 4 times a year. I simply write it on my calendar each time I give a dose and mark the next date I’ll need to give him his next chew. Everyone has been sleeping better now that Max is flea free!

I’ve heard about this pill. Glad it helped your sweet pooch!
Our dog is allergic to fleas, too. I’m going to check out this preventative!
Our little dog is sensitive and can’t use traditional meds. We put several drops of cedarwood oil on him monthly and have always been flea free.
I haven’t heard of that! Glad you have a non med solution that works for him
We always had a dog growing up and would do the flea pill, definitely not something you want them to get!
What great products for cats and dogs! Mama planted a lot of pennyroyal in our garden and fleas HATE it. But when she made collars for those OTHER kitties she had once, the collars just were strong enough with only herbs in them and so she changed to drops between my ears, now that she has ME. They are by Frontlline.
